Building Inspections
Please note that inspections cannot be scheduled for the same day. We require inspections to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Calling 24 hours in advance does not guarantee that there will be any time slots left the next day, so we recommend calling 2-3 days in advance whenever possible. Inspections cannot be made until after a permit has been paid for. To schedule an inspection, call (435)755-1650 press 1, and be prepared to give the following information:
- The building permit number, structure address, and/or the owner's name.
- The type of inspection needed
- What time of day that the inspection is desired AM or PM.
All inspection times are approximate. If you cannot reach us at the phone number listed above, you may try to reach us through the Zoning Department line at (435)755-1640 press 2.
Several inspections are required on most construction. A general rule is to call for an inspection before you cover anything up. A typical single family residence typically requires the following inspections:
Inspection Type |
Inspection Timing |
Footings |
To be made after trenches are excavated. Forms are erected and steel is in place and tied. |
Foundation |
To be made after forms are erected and steel is in place and tied. |
Underground Plumbing |
To be made after all plumbing is installed and prior to the covering of any drainage or water pipes and pressure test is on before basement floor is poured. |
Early (Permanent) Power |
We do not inspect for temporary power. However, permanent power is inspected for clearance with the local power provider. |
Rough Plumbing |
To be made after all plumbing is installed and prior to the covering of any drainage or water pipes and pressure test is on. |
Rough Framing |
To be made after the roof, all framing members, fire block, etc. are in place, and all pipes, vents and electrical wiring are installed. |
Rough Mechanical |
To be made after flue and ducts are run; furnace is installed and gas lines sized and in place. Gas pressure must be tested to 20 psi pressure test. |
Rough Electrical |
To be made after all wiring is in place and before any of it is covered up. |
Final Inspection * |
To be made after building is completed and prior to occupancy. |
Additional Inspections as needed |
Insulation, Chimney, Lath, Stucco Certification, etc. may be required. See your permit for the specific inspections required for your structure. |
*As of 1/1/2022 a Pre-Occupancy Checklist/Sign-off sheet is required for structures built within the unincorporated areas of Cache County. This will require sign-off from Public Works and the Fire District. You will receive the sheet at the time of Zoning Clearance approval or you may print a copy here. This document must be provided to the building inspector at the Final Inspection and is not the responsibility of the building inspector to obtain the signatures.
